Give hope sweet hope

Thank you for supporting people like Menen and her family.

Single parent Menen (not her real name), her four sons and premature baby girl found themselves homeless and living cramped emergency motel accommodation for six months – through no fault of their own.

“It was very stressful – the children were crying they were so hungry all the time because I couldn’t cook for them like they were used to,” she says. “Food is expensive to buy so I could only get prepared food which we all had to share.

“There was no room to move or to play. They were tired all the time. It became normal for them.”

UnitingSA’s Homelessness Services began working with Menen and eventually helped her secure an affordable rental home.

“I was feeling depressed and anxious before coming to Taperoo Community Centre and now I feel as though I belong for the first time in my life. The classes have helped me believe in myself and that I am capable of learning.”
