Winter Appeal

Make sure no one gets left out in the cold this winter

As the cost of living sees a continued increase, families who are already struggling are feeling the strain and having to prioritise their spending, meaning they have to miss out on much-needed essentials.

Rental affordability recently reached below 1% and grocery prices continue to rise, up 8% compared to the same time last year.

Support people experiencing homelessness or financial hardship to stay warm, safe and access basic needs.

UnitingSA Winter Appeal case study

I don’t have any luxuries. I don’t go out to the pictures. I get very lonely.

For South Australians, it’s sometimes just the little things that can really make a big difference.

At age 88, Jeannette does not drive and is too frail to catch the bus, and the cost of a taxi is out of the question. She lives on the pension, and it’s getting harder and harder to put food on the table and pay the utility bills.

Saying hello to the team at our Emergency Relief Centre located at 58 Dale Street, Port Adelaide, also helps Jeannette tackle the loneliness she feels since her husband passed away nine years ago. They were together for more than 60 years.

Each week, UnitingSA is able to provide Jeannette with fruit and vegetables.

Recently she was overjoyed to receive supermarket vouchers to help meet the cost of her weekly shop too. Jeannette has a home, but many of the 12,000 people UnitingSA is supporting this year do not.

All donations $2 and above are tax deductible. Please consider an EOFY donation, before Friday 30 June 2023.

Feeling Creative?

We love when our community gets creative with fundraising.

Here are some ideas you may like:

  • Get the team together and go on a shopping spree. All it takes is 10 minutes and a $10 contribution from each person!
  • Allocate canned soup, long life milk or noodles in a cup to each team in your office, class or department to help make their gift purchasing easier.
  • Have a collection tin in your foyer or reception to raise funds toward the appeal. We are able to provide you with a UnitingSA branded collection tin for this purpose – please email
    donations@unitingsa.com.au
  • Hold a dress-up or casual/jeans day for a gold coin or a non-perishable donation, with proceeds going to the appeal.

Don’t forget to share a photo of your group participating in Winter Appeal activities on social media and tag us @unitingsa or use the hashtags #WinterAppeal or #TogetherWeCan
