UnitingSA’s first Residential Aged Care site underwent a significant redevelopment featuring 168 private bedrooms and a specialised memory support unit. It includes a modern, eco-friendly design, allowing residents to actively engage with the coastal community or take part in a range of leisure activities onsite.
Background
This is the second redevelopment of Wesley House since opening in 1950, with a smaller renovation completed 30 years prior.
It allowed residents from the outdated Morpeth Aged Care to move into modern accommodation coupled with high-quality care in a social, welcoming environment.
Project Summary & Features
- 168 new comfortable bedrooms with private ensuites, air‑conditioning and smart TVs, increasing the total number of resident rooms by 46
- 48‑bedroom wing and secure memory unit for residents living with dementia
- Large activity spaces, living areas, courtyards, a hairdresser and café allow for greater resident engagement with loved ones and the community
- Eco‑friendly design, featuring an on‑site generator and centralised energy monitoring system, and 130kW solar power
- Project delivered in three stages
2017 Winner of the ‘Innovation in Development’ award from the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s (UDIA) SA Awards for Excellence
- Joint winner of the ‘Excellence in Aged Living Design’ from Aged and Community Services SA&NT
