UnitingSA will officially open its newest community housing development – Uniting on Devonport – in Prospect on 26 March 2025.

As South Australians grapple with an acute housing shortage, the SA-based not-for-profit is playing its part, delivering homes for some of the State’s most vulnerable community members.

The development, which is UnitingSA’s largest completed community housing development to date, features 40 dwellings, including:

  • 21 affordable housing apartments
  • 10 social housing apartments
  • 2 specialist disability accommodation apartments
  • 7 townhouses (sold privately to help fund the project)

UnitingSA is uniquely positioned to deliver projects that prioritise community impact and resident wellbeing.

“Every day, across our homelessness, emergency relief and mental health services, we see how the housing shortage and lack of affordable rentals is pushing people to the brink,“ explains Jenny Hall, Chief Executive Officer.

In addition to providing much needed housing, UnitingSA provides essential wraparound services. When needed, social housing tenants can have access to mental health support, counselling and NDIS services.

“We’re not just about constructing buildings – we’re very much about building communities where people can thrive,“ says Jenny.

The new apartments will cater for a diverse mix of people on low to moderate incomes.

“Location is important. We know that having a safe, secure home close to schools, transport and services is integral for individuals and families to build the foundations they need for a brighter future,“ she says.

The development site, situated in the heart of Prospect, replaces six outdated properties.

“We’re committed to setting high building standards with our developments following sustainable design principles.“

Built around an internal landscaped courtyard, the building’s design encourages interaction and the creation of community among residents.

The organisation has a proven track record in strengthening communities through the delivery of quality housing outcomes.

In the last seven years, UnitingSA has delivered nine building projects that have provided over 250 new homes for South Australians.

The organisation currently has 975 properties under management or in construction.

“The housing crisis is a community problem, and it takes a community to rally together to solve it.

“We are privileged to play our part in alleviating some of the state’s housing strain.

“We welcome the opportunity to work in partnership with State and Federal governments, and other stakeholders, to help solve the housing crisis by building more homes to cater for South Australians facing housing stress.“

This is an example of regeneration helping address the housing supply crisis.

Uniting SA has replaced six old houses, with 40 new homes, offering a range of market sales, social housing, disability housing and affordable rentals.

Community Housing Providers play an important role helping house vulnerable South Australians and this development will provide important housing security to these households.
