Help us give hope to everyday South Australians this winter

For lots of us, winter means more time indoors with family and friends, putting an extra blanket on the bed, turning the heating up and enjoying a warm meal.

But for the nearly 10,000 South Australians who don’t have access to these everyday needs – secure shelter, food and warm clothing – the colder months are long, bleak and tough.

Over the past two years, calls for assistance to our homelessness and emergency relief services have increased by almost 60 per cent.

Please join with us this winter to support the South Australian families, young adults, older women and men, who would otherwise go without the basics.

For South Australians, it’s sometimes just the little things that can really make a big difference.

At age 88, Jeannette does not drive and is too frail to catch the bus, and the cost of a taxi is out of the question. She lives on the pension, and it’s getting harder and harder to put food on the table and pay the utility bills.

Saying hello to the team at our Emergency Relief Centre located at 58 Dale Street, Port Adelaide, also helps Jeannette tackle the loneliness she feels since her husband passed away nine years ago. They were together for more than 60 years.

Each week, UnitingSA is able to provide Jeannette with fruit and vegetables.

Recently she was overjoyed to receive supermarket vouchers to help meet the cost of her weekly shop too. Jeannette has a home, but many of the 12,000 people UnitingSA is supporting this year do not.

All donations $2 and above are tax deductible. Please consider an EOFY donation, before Friday 30 June 2023.

UnitingSA Winter Appeal case study

I don’t have any luxuries. I don’t go out to the pictures. I get very lonely.

Nobody can do everything but everyone can do something.

UnitingSA relies on the generosity of donors to help deliver innovative programs and support for people in need across metropolitan and regional South Australia.

“We love Hawksbury Gardens so much, your staff have been so supportive and have made this process so wonderful, we can’t thank you enough!”

Family member, Residential Aged Care
