We may be used to residents turning 100 in our Residential Aged Care homes, but for the first time ever one of our UnitingSA Housing tenants has celebrated their Centenary!

Ruby turned 100 in July but due to the state-wide lockdown and COVID-19 capacity limits, she has been enjoying smaller birthday catch-ups with family and friends over the past few weeks.

UnitingSA Housing Manager Con and Property Manager Leanne stopped by this week to deliver Ruby a beautiful orchid and fragrance diffuser as a gift to mark her special milestone.

Not only is Ruby our oldest UnitingSA Housing resident, but she is also one of our most inspiring.

At age 100, she still has an exceptional memory and sense of humour – plus she has embraced technology and has her own iPad which she uses to watch YouTube videos.

She is also remaining active by going for short walks regularly with her daughter Julie, who she lives with.

The pair are in the process of completing the equivalent of the 42.2km Marathon to Athens in small 200m stints, clocking their progress via an online Conqueror Virtual Challenge.

What an incredible Centenarian!
