Resident Companion

The resident companion volunteer will liaise with the Leisure and Lifestyle Team to provide one-to-one support and companionship to residents who have been identified to be socially isolated to maintain and enhance the emotional and social-wellbeing of residents based on their individual needs, interests and cultural backgrounds.

Locations:  Semaphore Park, Grange, Seaton, West Lakes, Salisbury North

Days & Times:  Monday to Friday (negotiable) – 10:00 am to 4:30 pm – Centrelink requirements can be met

Duties:

  • Establish rapport with the resident through actively listening to them talk about topics of their interest
  • Initiate and lead conversation based on residents individual interests
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to residents as required
  • Engage in an individual activity of interest to the resident if they choose
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality in relation to the residents at all times
  • Communicate respectfully at all times with residents, visitors, staff and other volunteers
  • Establish rapport and maintain positive relationships with residents

Requirements:

Essential

  • Clear communication skills
  • Ability to initiate and maintain a conversation
  • Empathy towards others

Desirable

  • Experience communicating with older people and their individual needs
  • A knowledge and understanding of dementia

Other Requirements:

  • National Police Check
  • NDIS Clearance
  • Covid-19 vaccinations
