Together we can
make Christmas possible

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our 2023 Christmas Appeal.

More than $50,000 was raised through our Christmas Appeal to support UnitingSA’s Emergency Relief services

This meant:

  • More than 870 community members received vouchers for essential items, gifts and other emergency assistance.

  • Nearly 500 children woke up to gifts under the tree on Christmas morning.

  • Approximately 15 people per day were provided with emergency food packages.

  • Around 40 people attended our Christmas Day lunch – people who may otherwise have been alone, or gone without.

Christine and her six children were just one of the families able to experience the joys of Christmas thanks to our community of supporters.

After losing her husband when he was hit by a car on Main North Road in March last year, Christine was left with six children at home – wondering how to tell them that they would be skipping Christmas.

Thanks to our generous donors, the family were able to visit our Toy Room in Port Adelaide and choose special gifts to wake up to on Christmas morning.

Our Financial Counsellors have also been helping the family navigate payments of their soaring energy bills.

“I was so happy, I was crying,” Ms Lino said. “They are just angels sent to my family, and I am so grateful for that.”

Local individuals and families still need our support throughout the year.

Our teams need your help to ensure South Australians aren’t without the basics such as a safe housing, food and clothing.

If you’d like to support our work year-round, we encourage you to set up a regular donation from as little as $20 a month.

In-kind donations are gratefully received year-round at our Emergency Relief Centre, 58 Dale Street, Port Adelaide (between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday). Please note that we can only accept new and unused in-kind donations.

From all of us at UnitingSA and on behalf of the people we support, thank you for helping us make this positive impact.

Stay tuned for information about our upcoming Winter Appeal.

Here are just three real-life stories of how your gift can help.

Bring joy to South Australian individuals and families in need. Donate today.

A young couple, both aged 19, were forced to flee their family homes with no belongings and ended up sleeping rough for months.

They are about to move into their own home together and your donation will help them purchase a toaster, kettle and new set of bed sheets.

A 51-year-old single person with no support network of family or friends is about to move into one of our affordable housing units and restart their life.

Following a long history of domestic violence and with no personal belongings since escaping over a year ago, your donation will help with essential items such as furniture, a microwave and comfy quilt.

A mum of two has found herself unemployed after escaping domestic violence and is starting the long process of rebuilding her life. She desperately wants to give her children the happy times they dream of.

Your donation can help ensure each of her children receive a gift and stocking fillers, as well as a grocery voucher to help feed the family.

Nobody can do everything but everyone can do something.

UnitingSA relies on the generosity of donors to help deliver innovative programs and support for people in need across metropolitan and regional South Australia.

“I would still be on the streets if it wasn’t for the support of UnitingSA. It means the world to me to have a house for my whole family and to be able to tuck my children in at night.”
